Exciting improvements to Integro On Call service

Following the launch of the Integro On Call, telephone interpreting service, and the wonderful reception that the service has had from the business community, we have been encouraged to widen our language range, and increase the availability of core languages.

That's why Integro Languages has invested yet more time and resources in widening the net from 150 to now over 200 languages which are all supported 24hrs per day, 7 days per week.

We believe this will only re-affirm Integro On Call's position as a world class, innovative telephone interpreting service.

Real translators : Real people

ALT Real translators : Real people

This newsletter’s featured translator is a man who has definitely worked hard to get where he is.

Currently a highly successful translator who provides best value services for a number of clients Jarnail hails from India.

However, he certainly did not have an easy path to his current position.  In fact, this translator started life in quite difficult circumstances, and his childhood was characterised by challenges most of us are lucky enough never to have to encounter.

Try getting up at four in the morning just to do your homework.  Or getting home at six in the evening at the end of the school day.  If that doesn’t seem too hard, imagine having to cross a distance of 50km to get from your home to your school.

These conditions forged the kind of determination and commitment that make Jarnail into one of our most dynamic translators.    An early prodigy, he was winning poetry prizes while still at school.  Then he became a famed children’s writer while still in his teens.

Translation grabbed him when he left home and tried to find work as a sports instructor.  He had honed his skills with his college work, which required him to learn over 4,000 English words before his first year was over.  Once qualified as a sports instructor, he worked in South India, where he saw an advertisement asking for Punjabi translators.

The rest is history. Truly resourceful and determined, he found himself a computer and began freelancing.  Now he is one of ours.

He runs 3km a day and is a self-confessed gym junkie.  One of his new goals is to get his commercial pilot’s licence.  We hope he stays grounded long enough to continue to provide his formidable expertise to Integro’s clients.

‘Just enjoy the present and take life as it comes’, is his take on things.  All we know is that he is one of our highly respected and accomplished team of translators.  We wish him all the best for the future, and we’re thrilled that he is working for us.

Integro speaks at Entrepreneurship event

ALT Integro speaks at Entrepreneurship event

Tom, right, at the ARU Entrepreneurs Evening

Integro's Director, Tom, was invited to be one of the three key speakers at Anglia Ruskin University's 'Entrepreneurs question time' on 16th October.

The event was engineered by the University's alumni organisation, to provide motivation, inspiration and helpful tips and pointers to students of the university with entrepreneural aspirations.

With co-speakers Andre Senyk, or speckyfoureyes.com and Lucy Crowe, Creative Director of SIN Cru, the event was a huge success, and Integro Languages was proud to be associated with such a prestigious occasion, and especially to be given the honour of speaking.

Tom's comments at the end of the event were very enthusiastic "My thanks go to the University, and I sincerely applaud their support of entrepreneurship amongst their students. I just hope that they will continue this work, and Integro Languages is happy to pledge their ongoing support to the University's efforts."

2009 - Integro Europe starts here!

Integro Languages is proud to announce the imminent opening of a French branch of the company. Tom Bool, one of Integro's directors, has always had big plans for expanding the company internationally.

Since securing our flagship client SNCF, the French national rail company, the interest in our services coming from Continental Europe has been constantly rising and we have seen the need for an operations centre based in

Tom comments: “Our new presence in Europe will open new opportunities, and hugely strengthen our offering to our UK clients by further improving our translation capacities, and by giving much easier access to a range of service providers throughout Europe.”

Tom will be based in Paris and will launch the French office on the first of December while Sabelline, our office manager, will keep looking after the office here, so no worries, everything will run as smoothly as usual!

And as if life wasn’t international enough around here, Tom will even be having a half-English, half-French baby in January!

Congratulations are in order all round!

Myth busting!

ALT Myth busting!

Barney Phillips, of Dynamic Print, sent us this interesting question, looking for answers from our translators: “I’ve often heard a story that the word 'Kangaroo' means "I don't understand" in Aborigine language. Is it true?”

According to an old tale, Captain James Cook and Sir Joseph Banks were exploring Australia when they came across the animal. They asked a native what was the animal called and the man answered "Kangaroo", meaning "I don't understand you", which Cook understood as the name of the animal.

Well, this is a charming story, but unfortunately not true…”It's a myth”, our translators have thoroughly busted. To the best of our knowledge, there are no modern Aborigine languages containing anything close to the word “Kangaroo”...

It is however true that Captain Cook did bring back news of an animal a native tribe called a “ Gangurru ”, but it's thought that the word meant 'Horse' in a language that has vanished since.

Boring, we know... but true!
Feel free to send in your language myths and questions to team@integrolanguages.co.uk, and we'll do our best to answer.
